Temperature Blanket Planner

Temperature Blanket Planner

Pick your city and year. The planner looks up the real daily temperatures, turns them into color bands and shows the finished blanket, with the days and yarn for every color.

1. City and year

285 US cities. Each one uses the nearest NOAA weather station that reports every day.

How to set the ranges

Equal width splits the temperature range into even steps. Balanced days aims for about the same number of days in every color, so the blanket has fewer very long stripes.

8 bands

Each band includes its lower number and stops just below its upper number. Free: up to 8 bands.

Yards per stitch depends on yarn weight and stitch. The defaults are typical for worsted yarn; measure a swatch and edit them.

Your blanket appears here as soon as the weather loads: one colored row for every day, with the number of days and yards for each color.

    Try

From your city’s weather to a color chart

Most temperature blanket guides stop at a blank chart. You look up every daily high on a weather site, copy it into a table and match each number to a color by hand. This planner does that part for you. Choose a US city and a year, and it pulls the daily highs and lows recorded at the nearest NOAA weather station, then assigns each day to one of your temperature ranges.

What you get is the whole year at once: a preview of the finished blanket, a count of how many days fall in each color, a yarn estimate for each color from your gauge and width, and a table with the date, the temperature and the color of every single day. Change a range or swap a color and everything updates.

Planning a blanket for the year ahead

Blankets start on January 1, but yarn is easier to buy in the weeks before. Choose 2027 (starts Jan 1) and the planner shows your city with 2025 weather as a clearly labeled preview, so you can pick ranges and count skeins now. Once the year is under way, choose the year in progress and the real days replace the preview as the station reports them. The 2027 start guide walks through it.

    Free and paid

You can build and preview any blanket before you decide anything. The free planner covers any city and year, up to 8 color bands, the preview, counts and a daily table. The Planner Pack ($3.99, one-time) adds the printable chart, checklist and yarn list. See pricing.

    Questions

    Is the planner free?

Yes. Any US city and year, the on-screen preview, up to 8 color bands, the color and yarn counts, the daily table and a picture download (with a small “Made free” line) cost nothing. The Planner Pack ($3.99, one-time) adds the printable PDF chart, a daily checklist, a yarn shopping list and more.

Where does the weather come from?

From NOAA, the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, through its National Centers for Environmental Information daily summaries. Each city uses the nearest airport-grade weather station with a long record. NOAA data is public domain.

Why does my city show a different station?

Weather stations sit at airports and observatories, often a few miles from the middle of town. The planner picks the nearest one that reports a high and a low almost every day, and it names the station and its distance on screen.

What happens when the station misses a day?

You choose. By default a missing day is estimated from the days around it and flagged “est.” in the daily table. You can also leave it gray as “no data” and decide at the loom or the hook.

Can I plan a blanket before the year starts?

Yes. Choose 2027 (starts Jan 1) and the planner shows a preview made from 2025 weather at the same station, clearly labeled, so you can choose colors and buy yarn early.

Does it work outside the US?

Not yet. The weather source covers US weather stations, so the planner only offers US cities.
